Skateboarding
I am going to start off with a bunch of useless information for people who want to start skating but dont know anything about it.
1. History
a) Skateboarding became popular in the 1960's in California as a substitute for surfing
b) In the 1970's polyurethane wheels were invented
c) In 1995, the first 100% recyclabe deck was invented
2. Parts of a skateboard
a) deck = part u stand on
b) truck = holds wheels to board
c) bearing = holds wheels to truck
3. Competition
a) Three different types of competition are downhill, speed, freestyle.
b) The first known existance of vert skating was when a skater's parents went out of town for the weekend and the skater and a few of his friends drained the backyard pool and used that as a ramp.
c) The X-Games are the Olympics of skating. It involves all kind of skating from skateboarding to roller blading.
4. Tricks
a) Ollie is the simplest and most important trick that you can do. To be able to do any trick you have to know how to ollie. To ollie all you do is but your back foot on the tail of the board and your front foot as far from or as close to the front as you feel comfortable. Press down with your back foot and at the same time slide your front foot to the very front of the board.
b) The easiest tricks that you can to are ollies, kickflips, nollies, and slides.
c) the most complicated tricks are such as backside 180 kickflip, cabalarial-fakie backside 360 ollie, frontside flip, popshoveit, tailside, and crooked grind.
5. Magazines and catalogs
a) You can find skateboarding magazines on the internet.
b) Transworld is the best skateboarding magazine available.. i think so anyways. It gives you up-to-date information on pro skaters, skateboard brands, and you can find anything you are looking for in the magazine. The best thing is, you can buy it in most grocery stores.
c) Another magazine is Big Brother. I dont know anything about this magazine b/c i have never seen one.
d) One very good catalog to get is the CCS catalog.
